How can a Chinese Medicine doctor help my child?

In the past 5 years of practicing, my clients have found themselves bringing their children to the clinic with all types of different ailments. Fortunately, the child who attended their appointment always leave the clinic feeling good.

I see paediatric clients ranging from babies, children and teenagers in the clinic. They often present with different physical conditions e.g bedwetting, eczema, broken ankle, post gastro, eating disorder, 'big' emotions a.k.a bouts of anger, ADHD, ADD, headaches, back pain, long term abdominal pain, poor appetite, post cold/flu, chronic cough, etc. Most of them see immediate results; however for some, having chronic conditions in addition to their weaker constitution can take up to 6 weeks of weekly treatments to see a great change in their health.

Why does Chinese Medicine work really well with children?

Interestingly, my paediatric clients tend to have better results than adults. They quite often respond to treatments instantly. I find that children tend to be more in their bodies (rather than in their heads). Children feel and notice the change in their bodies as they receive the treatment. Therefore, it is important for me as a practitioner to create a treatment environment that is fun and relaxing.

I often use a wide range of techniques when it comes to treating infant, children and teenagers. For children who have a fear of needles, acupuncture needle itself is not required. This is known as no-needle acupuncture technique.

The no-needle acupuncture techniques include

  • pediatric Tui NA

  • Shonishin

  • Moxibustion

  • Cupping

  • Press seeds

  • Micro- stimulation

  • Lifestyle and diet advice

  • Home treatment

The purpose of treatment is to allow the child to have the ability rebalance their inner Qi, Blood and Shen (Vital energies).

So how can I help your child as a Chinese Medicine doctor?

Here are some ways that a Chinese Medicine doctor can help children:

  1. Improve Immunity: Chinese Medicine can help strengthen a child's immune system to prevent illness and promote overall health. Through treatments, it can help boost the body's natural defenses.

  2. Relieve Digestive Issues: Many children suffer from digestive issues like constipation, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Treatments can help alleviate these symptoms.

  3. Reduce Allergy Symptoms: Chinese Medicine can help reduce the severity of allergy symptoms in children by reducing inflammation and promote overall health.

  4. Treat Common Childhood Illnesses: Common childhood illnesses like colds, flu, and ear infections can also be alleviated through Chinese medicine and speeding up recovery.

  5. Support Emotional Health: We also help support a child's emotional health by addressing issues like anxiety, depression, and ADHD. The treatments usually help with reducing stress and promote overall emotional well-being.

Overall, a Chinese Medicine doctor can provide safe, effective and fun treatments for a wide range of childhood health issues. Children and their family members belong to the same 'ecosystem'. Once the child's health or mental health condition is addressed, the dynamics of the whole family changes. So, it is essential for me to work with parents to develop personalized treatment plans that are tailored to a child's specific needs and health concerns.
